Quang Ngai: Survey to collect information on the needs of people with disabilities for social services

In August - September 2023, Action to the Community Development Institute (ACDC) in collaboration with the Quang Ngai Association of People with Disabilities organized "Survey Needs of People with Disabilities about social services". The activity is within the framework of the project "Opportunity and inclusion for people with disabilities" implemented by ACDC and funded by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).

The objectives of the Survey is is to gather concrete evidence about the needs of people with disabilities for assistive devices, including Orthopedic - Rehabilitation. This information is one of the bases in the research, development, amendment, and supplementation of laws and policies relating to people with disabilities. Additionally, the survey aims to enhance the information-gathering skills of individuals and the Association of People with Disabilities in managing and updating on people with disabilities in the local community.

A pool of 11 interviewers who are members of the Quang Ngai Association of People with Disabilities will conduct direct interviews with 800 people with disabilities, with priority given to persons with motor disabilities in 10 communes/wards in Quang Ngai province. The results of the survey will be aggregated and shared with supporting experts as well as competent state agencies. Based on this information, the project will promote the promulgation of policies to support people with disabilities in accordance with their needs and current economic conditions. This result will also be sent back to the Quang Ngai Association of People with Disabilities so that the Association has a database to manage people with disabilities.On the morning of August 25th, 2023, the project collaborated with the Danang Association of People with Disabilities to organize a training on "Instructions for using the questionnaire." The aim was to improve the Association's information collection skills and enhance its information management capacity, thereby ensuring the effectiveness of the survey.

With the knowledge and skills gained from the training, the Quang Ngai Association of People with Disabilities conducted the first survey in Nguyen Nghiem ward on the afternoon of August 25th, involved more than 40 people with disabilities. The Association will continue the survey in September with the support of ACDC, ICRC, and the Da Nang Association of People with Disabilities.
