Quang Tri: Legal counseling for person with disabilities in Dakrong district

On May 24th 2024, ACDC  collaborate with the provincial, district OPD - VAVAs to organize  legal counseling for nealry 60 persons with disabilities and the family members of persons with disabilities in Huong Hiep, Mo O, Ba Long communes  in Dakrong district, Quang Tri province.

This activities is to help persons with disabilities and family members of persons with disabities improve their knowledge of legal policies related to disabilities, advise and answer problems of persons with disabilities related to the law and community policies. At the same time, raise awareness and community responsibility in supporting persons with disabilities in social protection and policies related to them.

With the participation of a consulting team including: Law Department - ACDC; DOLISA, OPDs at the provincial and district level; Provincial Legal Aid Center; Serveral queries about social protection, education - vocational training, landing, health insurance, preferential loans... of persons with disabilities and their families have been devotedly instructed and answered.

Ms. Le Thi P, whose husband has a severe mobility disability, shared: "Fortunately, thanks to this project activity, I know more about men with disabilities who has children under 36 months are supported 540,000 VND/month. Next Monday I will go to see the commune policy officer to prepare documents for my husband to receive social protection allowances because my child is 5 months old."

Ms. Nguyen Thi Nam - Policy Officer of Mo O Commune, Dakrong District said: "This is the first time I know about the project's free legal consultation program for persons with disabilities and their families. Many persons with disabilities in my commune have had more guided/explained/advised in their queries. This is also an opportunity for me to better understand and apply policies, especially social protection policies for specific persons with disabilities and households which have persons with disabilitie in the area where I am working. I am really impressed by the thoughtful preparation and dedication of the consultants and project staff who came to the locality to provide consulting support and answer questions for people in my locality. . Through this, I would also like to send my sincere thanks to the organizing panel, project and ACDC for organizing this activity in my home district."

Summarizing in reflective meeting of the counseling session, Ms. Le Hai Yen - Head of ACDC Law Department emphasized: "This year, the majority of persons with disabilities or their family members who came for consultation answered that they had a certificate certifying their level of disability. I see this as a positive and progressive point compared to previous years, proving the active and effective activities of the district/commune OPDs and the in charge of local policicy offcicers to ensure the rights of persons with disabilities."

The activity is within the framework of the project "Rasing voices, Creating Opportunities, Phase II" funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the project is implemented by ACDC in three provinces Quang Tri, Thua Thien Hue and Quang Nam from 2021 - 2024.
