Deaf people face many difficulties in their lives, but perhaps the largest obstacle is the difference in language, which makes accessing information more challenging.

Recognizing the importance of teaching those in the community about the United Nation’s Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), Action to the Community Development Center (ACDC) has organized training events on this international legal protocol for the deaf community in Vietnam. Training events were held from November 19th to the 20th in regions of southern Vietnam such as Ho Chi Minh City, Can Tho, Binh Duong Province, and Dong Thap Province. Additional seminars were held on November 26th and 27th in the central cities of Da Nang, Hue, and Quang Ngai.

Training provided basic knowledge of the CRPD and encouraged participants to get involved in the process of the convention’s implementation in Vietnam. These seminars brought special guests including President for the Deaf Association Hanoi, Tuan Linh Nguyen, and Vice President, Phan Ngoc, as well as Ms. Bui Thi Thanh Huong from the Deaf Culture Club in Ho Chi Minh City.
