The International Day of Persons with Disabilities (December 3) is an international observance promoted by the United Nations since 1992. In commemoration of this day, Action to the Community Development Center (ACDC) and the Disability Association of Thừa Thiên-Huế Province jointly held a celebratory ceremony at Dien Bien Hotel in Hue City on December 1st, 2016.
The Deputy Chairman of the Provincial Fatherland Front, Le Thi Tuyet Mai, along with the Deputy Director of the Provincial Department of Internal Affairs, Nguyen Thanh Ha, were among those in attendance. They were joined by delegates representing people with disabilities in Thừa Thiên-Huế Province and provincial media agencies.
To open the ceremony, leaders of the provincial disability committee gave a speech about the importance of December 3rd and introduced the International Convention of the United Nations on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD). In addition, representatives from local districts such as Phong Dien, Nam Dong, and Phu Loc shared their experiences in the construction and development of the Disability Association of the province, as well as future fundraising activities of the Association. During the conference, attending representative of ACDC, Nguyen Hoang Kha Tu, also presented the results of the “Support for Disabled People in Thừa Thiên-Huế Province” project for the past year.
The conference gave people with disabilities in the province an opportunity to better understand their rights and obligations in the current social context. It also served as a place where they could exchange experiences and activities with other members of the Association, and celebrate all numerous outstanding achievements made by the community in the past year.
ACDC strives to continue its commitment to accompany the movement of people with disabilities in Thừa Thiên-Huế Province and all of Vietnam.
