On the morning of September 23, 2023, the ACDC Institute, in collaboration with the Da Nang City Association of Persons with Disabilities, held the award ceremony for the painting contest titled “Our Voices.” The event marked the conclusion of the painting contest launched by ACDC Institute earlier this summer.
The ceremony was attended by Mrs. Tong Lik Yin – Senior Officer of the International Programme, Hong Kong Save the Children; Ms. Le Thi Thanh Huong – Head Representative of Save the Children Vietnam; Mr. Vuong Dinh Giap – Programme Director of Save the Children Vietnam; Ms. Dam Viet Ha – Deputy Director of ACDC Institute; Mr. Truong Cong Nghiem – Chairman of the Da Nang City Association of Persons with Disabilities, along with nearly 50 prize-winning young artists, their guardians, and representatives from organizations working with persons with disabilities and children with disabilities.
Mrs. Tong Lik Yin, Senior Officer of the International Programme at Hong Kong Save the Children, presented the First Prize certificates for both the Young Sprouts and Green Bamboo categories.
Over the past three months, the Organizing Committee has tirelessly promoted the contest to the community through social media and direct events. A total of 186 entries were received, featuring colorful, emotionally rich paintings full of creative and diverse ideas. Among the participants, 58% were in the “Green Bamboo” category (ages 11-17) and 42% in the “Young Sprouts” category (ages 6-10).
Regarding themes, 20% of the artworks depicted physical and psychological violence against children; 4% focused on prevention and measures against violence and discrimination; 49% illustrated positive images and stories about family, school, and safe, non-violent online environments; while 28% conveyed messages calling for community protection of children, especially children with disabilities, girls, disadvantaged children, and LGBT youth, advocating for safe and equal living environments. Notably, the Organizing Committee received 65 recommendations from the contestants expressed through their artworks.
Mrs. Tong Lik Yin presented the First Prize awards for both the “Young Sprouts” and “Green Bamboo” categories.
In her speech, Mrs. Tong Lik Yin said: “I understand the difficulties and barriers these children face, but with the support of their parents, teachers, and especially their own efforts, they have been able to express their feelings, wishes, stories, and messages through these wonderfully colorful paintings. I see this contest as a valuable platform where children can freely create and voice their opinions. It has also helped children with disabilities engage more with society and integrate better into the community. I hope to see more events like this that provide opportunities for all children, including those with disabilities, to participate, integrate, and share their stories.”
