Study visit and knowledge exchange on care and rehabilitation for persons with disabilities at Ulsan University Hospital, Korea

On the morning of 29 October, representatives from the Vietnam Federation on Disability (VFD), the Action to the Community Development Institute (ACDC), and partner organizations visited Ulsan University Hospital in the Republic of Korea to exchange experiences and learn about care and rehabilitation practices for persons with disabilities. The delegation was led by Mr. Dang Van Thanh, Standing Vice President of VFD.

The purpose of the visit was to learn about the coordination and operational mechanisms between the Department of Rehabilitation and the Department of Orthopedics, as well as the application of advanced rehabilitation technologies, assistive equipment, and the integrated model combining hospital-based rehabilitation and community-based rehabilitation at Ulsan University Hospital.

During the meeting, Mr. Dang Van Thanh, Standing Vice President of VFD, shared: “We are truly honored to visit one of the leading medical facilities in Korea, and the only one of its kind in Ulsan City. This is a valuable opportunity for us to learn from the hospital’s advanced management systems and cutting-edge technologies.”

Welcoming the delegation, Ms. Juhee Lee, Manager of the International Healthcare Center, guided the delegation through the hospital and provided detailed explanations at the departments and units of interest.

At the end of the visit, Ms. Juhee Lee expressed her hope that the delegation had gained meaningful insights and experiences from Ulsan University Hospital, and looked forward to further exchanges and future visits for deeper professional collaboration.

A series of major storms and floods – No. 10, 11, 12, and 13 – in late 2025 devastated large areas of northern, central, and Central Highlands provinces, leaving tens of thousands of households submerged, losing property, and facing disrupted livelihoods. Persons with disabilities, who are among the most heavily affected groups due to limited mobility and reduced capacity to respond to emergencies, were identified as those in urgent need of assistance.
