Under the framework of VNAH/USAID project to provide “awareness training for leaders of DPOs and persons with disabilities on the laws and policies concerning persons with disabilities”, ACDC had continued to conduct trainings about “disability and policies” in Thua Thien Hue and Quang Nam provinces.
There are nine districts, towns and cities in Thua Thien Hue. The provincial DPO has been in establish for 5 years; and it is one of the most developed DPOs in the central provinces. To date there are 7 DPOs at district level and 20 at commune level. Quang Nam has 40.000 people with disabilities, making it one of the cities with highest number of persons with disabilities. Quang Nam DPO was established 4 years ago and had thrived to improve interactions between persons with disabilities. ACDC had organized the training to improve disability policies knowledge from June 22nd to 25th 2015 in Hue,and from July 14th to 17th 2015 in Hoi An Nd Tam Ki (Quang Nam), attracting participation of over 200 people with disabilities from the two provinces.
During the training course, participants were informed about laws involving people with disabilities such as: disability identifying; healthcare for people with disabilities; educational rights of people with disabilities; vocational training, occupation and labor to people with disabilities; gender, peer counseling for people with disabilities...
Trainees from both provinces were energetic. With the diversity of disabilities, levels of education and ability to absorb knowledge of participants, trainers had used many methods to increase initiative, active and interaction during the training. Besides learning from trainers, participants also provide information about local policy involving people with disabilities. By the end of the training course, it is confirmed tahat contents of the course are practical to trainees and also essential for them to spread among other people with disabilities.
The training in Quang Nam is the final training course of raising awareness of leaders of DPOs and local people with disabilities about laws and policies for people with disabilities by VNAH/USAID. In near future, ACDC continues to host activities to enhance participation and development of DPOs to other provinces in the country.
