With the intention to enhance the capacity of DPOs in the whole country, since 2015, ACDC Center in cooperation with experts from different fields related to people with disability have developed and completed a tool kit for monitoring and implementing the CRPD in Vietnam.

The introduction ceremony of the document “Monitoring and Implementing the UN’s CRPD” in the Northern region was organized on March 15th, 2016 in Hanoi. The program is in the framework of the project namely “Increasing the monitoring and assessment of the implementation of UN’s Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in Vietnam” sponsored by CBM organization.

The document is built upon 6 themes: the UN’s CRPD; the Disability Law and related policies; Assessing and monitoring the implementation of the CRPD (to assist shadow reporting); Policy Advocating; Using the media to assist DPOs’ development. The document will support the DPOs’ leaders in evolving their organizations and providing information for their members and the neighbor regions. The document has been discussed in many consultations and experimental training before the final product was made. The document not only achieves its intended contents but also considers the several factors as genders, regions, culture, representativeness and disability type according to Vietnamese law.

Mrs. Nguyễn Thị Lan Anh, Director of ACDC Center, said: “With the meticulous work of the experts of different fields, we believe this document will be helpful and practical for the leaders of DPOs in different provinces to apply to develop their organization as well as monitoring the implementation of the CRPD in Vietnam”.

From February to April, 2016, ACDC Center has organized 3 training courses for the themes in the “monitoring and implementing the UN’s CRPD document” in the Northern region. Each course had the participation of 30 core attendants representing DPOs of the Northern region. They will become the key lecturers at their own organizations in the North. During the 9 days of each courses, the attendants not only are taught about the themes of the document but also had the opportunity to practice lecturing.

Aside from providing knowledge related to each theme, the attendants and lecturers also had an open discussion on lecturing methods and how to make the lectures more enticing and more suitable for different form of disability and for each content.

At the end of the training courses, the attendants were all enthusiastic and encouraged as they had learnt new knowledge, had the opportunity to practice lecturing to have a better grasp of the lessons and to gain experience on conveying the knowledge of the document to people with disability in their hometown.

After the courses for the Northern region, ACDC will organize courses for the Central and Southern region in this and the upcoming year.
