Thua Thien Hue Province: A series of activities to promote the movement and the implementation on the rights of people with disabilities

Within the project’s framework sponsored by The United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Action to the Community Development Center (ACDC), in collaboration with the Project Management Committee “Supporting people with disabilities from 2015 to 2018,” has organized a training course and conferences series in Thua Thien Hue Province. 

From 29 to 30 August 2016, in Hue city, the training “Developing strategies and action plans for Thua Thien Hue DPOs” was taken place in Hue city. The aim of this program is to enhance the capacity of these organizations for drawing up strategies and planning their own activities.  

With that goal, this program attracted the participation of 39 trainees who are the core leaders from DPOs at province, districts and city levels in Thua Thien Hue Province. Under the instructions of Mrs. Nguyen Thi Lan Anh, Director of the ACDC and Mrs. Dam Viet Ha, Deputy Director of the ACDC, the trainees have obtained the concepts related to the organization development and long-term development strategies of the DPOs.  In addition, this training course is also an opportunity for all the members to look back and perfect their vision to set the goals as well as objectives for their organizations in the future.

Besides, the trainers have organized the discussions and given the questions in order to help the participants understanding the goals of this program as well as supporting the leaders from DPOs at province, district and city levels in Thua Thien Hue Province to operate their plans in 2017 and long-term visions until 2020.

After that, on 08 and 09 September 2016, the training session namely “DPOs establishment procedure” was held in A Luoi district, with the participation of 28 trainees who are people with disabilities, together with therepresentative of persons with disabilities, the leader of provincial DPO and the leader  of Department of Home Affairs as well as  Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs in A Luoi District. The training’s aims are to help the participants understanding the procedures to establish DPO district. 

Under the instructions of Ms Nguyen Thi Hong Minh, Project Coordinator, the trainees could learn about the legal basis and the procedures to establish DPO, along with advancing relevant knowledge and skills.

In the afternoon of September 9th, with the permission of Provincial People’s Committee, the workshop called “Sharing experience in establishing DPOs” was held at the Hall of Division of Education in A Luoi District. The workshop has had the participation of Mr. Nguyen Thanh Ha, Deputy Director of Department of Home Affairs; Mr. La Thach, President of provincial DPO; Ms Nguyen Thi Thanh Nham, Deputy Head of District Division of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs; Mr. Ho Hai Duong, Head of District Division of Home Affairs; and the representatives of DPOs in Phong Dien, Phu Loc, Nam Dong District as well as nearly 30 local  persons with disabilities.

Above are the very first activities of the project in the 3rd quarter of 2016 which purpose is to promote the movement as well as the implementation on the rights of people with disabilities Thua Thien Hue Province.
