In commemoration of the 24th International Day of People with Disabilities, Action to the Community Development Center (ACDC), in collaboration with the Disabled People Association of Phu Xuyen, held its 4th “Free Health Examinations for Women with Disabilities” event.
The program was first organized by ACDC back in 2012. Since then, it has become an annual event that is carried out in the suburban districts of Hanoi, along with some provinces in Thai Binh and Quang Binh. So far, the program has provided counseling and medical examinations for over 1500 women with disabilities. The program receives support from the People’s Committee of Phu Xuyen District, district health stations, and volunteering doctors and students from the Hanoi Medical University.
2016 was also the year the United Nations officially implemented its 17 goals for sustainable development, including good health and well-being, and reduced inequalities. In order for these goals to be met, the participation and equality of people with disabilities must also be considered. Events such as these help to ensure that those with disabilities also are getting adequate healthcare and treatment.
