On March 4th - 5th, 2022, the Action to the Community Development Institute (ACDC) collaborated with the provincial Organizations of Persons with Disabilities (OPD) to organize a training course on “Independent Living (IL) and Disability Equality Training (DET)” at Dong Ha city, Quang Tri province.

The training attracted the participation of 36 officers from OPDs and relevant departments, including Mr. Thai Vinh Lieu - Chairman of Quang Tri’s OPD along with other members.

Under the dedicated facilitation of trainers, trainees clearly understood the concept of disability, independent living and disability inclusion, as well as disability models, persons with disabilities’ obstacles and principles to ensure disability inclusion, etc. Especially, they were learned and fully visualized the difficulties of persons with disabilities, and at the same time were aware of the importance of inclusion and independent living for persons with disabilities by many interesting activities and games throughout the training.

In particular, the trainees also came up with various practical solutions to support persons with disabilities, for example always respecting and listening to their opinions; giving suggestions to competent authorities to build accessible public constructions; increasing visits to their households to provide timely support; organizing training courses to disseminate legal provisions related to persons with disabilities; propagating to raise awareness about disability inclusion; encouraging them to participate in community activities appropriate to their abilities; establishing local clubs or organizations of and for persons with disabilities, etc.

At the end of the training, Mrs. T. T. G – A medical officer in Ward 2, Quang Tri town shared: On behalf of the whole class, I would like to thank the trainers and all ACDC officers for organizing this training course. As a medical staff, I will apply what I have learned when dealing with patients with disabilities, and provide appropriate healthcare or rehabilitation for them and their families. Hopefully project “Raising voices, creating opportunities – II” will have more useful and practical training courses like this one.”

The training course is within the framework of Project “Raising voices, creating opportunities – II” funded by The United States Agency for International Development (USAID), which is being implemented in Quang Tri. It is expected that in the coming time, the project will continue to deploy more activities to further promote disability inclusion in the locality.
