On July 23 and 24, ACDC collaborated with the Project Management Board of "Raising voices, creating opportunities for persons with disabilities - II'' of Quang Nam province to conduct home visits and consultation for persons with disabilities. Independent living for persons with severe and especially severe disabilities in two districts of Que Son and Phu Ninh. Activities were coordinated to raise awareness, attitudes and enhance independent living skills for persons with disabilities and their families.

The members participating in this assessment and consultation included officers of the Association of Persons with Disabilities in Quang Nam Province, rehabilitation technicians of Quang Nam Traditional Medicine Hospital, and social and cultural officers, and commune health officers were equipped with knowledge and skills on independent living, inclusion and accessibility of persons with disabilities in previous training courses.

The members of the consulting group are all enthusiastic and experienced, so they can flexibly apply their trained skills and knowledge. 25 persons with disabilities were evaluated and consulted on access to housing, interactive activities for daily living. In addition, the consulting group also provided guidance on how to renovate and repair houses and how to arrange equipment used in the house in a neat, appropriate way for disability. This could make the daily life and work of persons with disabilities easier and more convenient, so they could be helped to be independent and reduce their dependence on their families.

“Participating in this activity, I have the opportunity to visit the homes of persons with disabilities. The more I understand the situation of my members, the more I understand the barriers in their own homes. Sometimes it is simply consulting and guiding the family to install more handrails, or make more ramps, but persons with disabilities can move more easily. I myself feel extremely happy.” - The share of Mr. Hua Quoc Dung, Chairman of the Association of Persons with Disabilities in Quang Nam province.

Mr. T.V.T, a person with a disability in Tam An commune shared when the group of members came to visit: "Today is a day off, but you still come to visit me. I'm very happy. I will try to follow what you advise to have better health, take care of myself so that my parents can reduce the burden.”

This activity is within the framework of the project "Raising voices, creating opportunities for persons with disabilities for the period 2021 - 2024" funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
