Thua Thien Hue: Training for drivers, assistants, and managers on working with persons with disabilities and the proper use or features in accessible buses

On September 7, 2022, in Thua Thien Hue province, the Action to Community Development Institute (ACDC) collaborated with the Project Management Unit to organize a training course on "Working with persons with disabilities and the proper use or features in accessible buses” The program has attracted the participation of more than 30 managers, drivers, and car assistants of transport enterprises in the province.

Via various training methods such as group exercises, group discussions, color cards, games, etc…the trainees had the opportunity to acquire more useful and necessary knowledge about disability and disability inclusion, models of disability, and rights-based approaches. In particular, the participants played roles and practiced supporting persons with disabilities with different types of disabilities to access passenger transport such as taxis and buses. The course has contributed to enhancing service attitude and communication skills, supporting persons with disabilities with different types of disabilities when traveling by bus and other means of public passenger transport.

Mr. L.H.A.V – A driver shared: “For me, this training is very fun and useful, today I also arranged my work to attend. With the knowledge gained on supporting persons with disabilities, I will guide other drivers and assistants later.”

Ms. N.T.T.D – Managers of the transport enterprise also gave positive feedback: “The training was very helpful, and some of the knowledge was very meaningful as well. I will discuss with my company about the proposal to integrate this topic into the company's training program. I’d like to say thank you to the organizers for creating opportunities for everyone to come and learn.”

This activity is within the project "Raising voices, creating opportunities for persons with disabilities for the period 2021 - 2024" funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). With the aim of raising awareness about disability, disability inclusion, disability models and rights-based approaches, in the coming time, the project will have more activities to promote and strengthen the capacity of the accessibility to public facilities for persons with disabilities.
