On October 14, 2022, the ACDC Institute, in collaboration with the Women with Disabilities Club of Vinh Linh district, Quang Tri province and the district’s Women’s Association, organized the contest “Women with Disabilities - Charming and Graceful”. The activity was to celebrate the 92nd year of Vietnamese Women’s Day on October 20, and was within the framework of the project “Inclusion and Independent Living”.

The contest attracted the participation of 30 women with disabilities who were club members. The event included the attendance of Ms. Nguyen Thi Tuyet, the Director of the Women’s Union of Vinh Linh district, and members of the executive board of the district’s Women Union: Ms. Tran Thi Huong, Vice President of the Organization of Persons with Disabilities and Agent Orange Victims, Sponsorship for Persons with Disabilities and Children’s Rights Protection; Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Lan, Project Coordinator, the ACDC Institute, along with project officers of ACDC in Quang Tri.

The contest was carried out with the enthusiastic participation of 3 teams in activities, such as Ao Dai costume contest, Flower Arrangement contest, Rice Dumpling Cake (a traditional food of Quang Tri) Making contest. Through every part, the contestants have shown their confidence and grace with the motto “Each woman has her own unique beauty”.

“This is the first time I’ve dressed in Ao Dai in front of so many people like this. I was very nervous and worried but with the cheers and encouragement from other women in the team, I was able to complete my performance. Ao Dai is the national costume of Vietnam and when I put it on, I was so proud and I felt much more graceful and beautiful. Ever since I joined the club, I found myself being more happy and confident, more connected with other women. We very much look forward to the activities from the club”, Ms. Hong Nhan, a club member, shared.

Each woman of the club all wore a graceful Ao Dai and performed beautifully throughout each part of the contest. During her speech at the contest, Ms. Nguyen Thi Tuyet, the Director of the Women’s Union of Vinh Linh district, said: “You are all very talented. Although I already knew how capable some of you are, today I am truly in awe. It stays true to the spirit of Vietnamese women to always do well in all our roles, whether it be to be a wife, a grandmother, or a mother, regardless of the disabilities. I hope that, with the support of ACDC, every year, there will be events organized for women to have the opportunity to gain new experience, and even be open to non-disabled participants as well.”

On this occasion, ACDC representatives would also like to wish all women a day full of happiness and joy. May all women always be confident and graceful and together shine brightly.

The Women with Disabilities Club of Vinh Linh district was established within the framework of the project “Inclusion and Independent Living”. Up to now, the Club has organized multiple activities and stayed active regularly to strengthen the connection and provide assistance to the women in the club. The activity hosted by the ACDC Institute was sponsored by USAID.
