In the past 2 days from January 12 to 13, 2023, ACDC in collaboration with the Project Management Board "Raising Voices, Creating Opportunities Project - Phase II" Quang Nam province organized activities “Training on gender violence prevention for women with disabilities”.  The activity aims to raise awareness and skills of women with disabilities in the prevention of gender-based violence.

The instructor explained the concept related to gender-based violence during the training session

The training course was implemented in two districts of Que Son and Nui Thanh, with the participation of 76 participants including women with disabilities and family members of persons with disabilities.

The activity has achieved positive results, reflected in the number of students participating fully and the quality of training of the lecturers. The participants not only began to understand basic concepts such as gender, sex, and knowledge about gender-based violence but also had the opportunity to participate in the exchange and share situations related to the content of the class.

A lively discussion of women with disabilities

Students attended the session with an open mind and gained a lot of new knowledge under the leadership of trainers from the Provincial Organization of Persons with Disabilities. The trainers used previously acquired knowledge and abilities to communicate the material in a systematic and logical manner. Activities such as glueing colour cards, separating groups, arranging situations, and group games....have assisted students in visualising and vividly acquiring content, as well as providing numerous possibilities for students to express themselves when interacting with the teacher and the entire class.

Participants present and share their views on situations when facing and at risk of gender-based violence prevention

Ms N.T.H, representative of Que Son district's Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs shared: “With Tet coming soon, I am somewhat worried that the number of trainees participating in the training is not enough. But I realize that this is a very meaningful and necessary activity for women, so I have motivated the staff of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs to do their best to mobilize students to participate as much as possible.”

The trainer specifically explained the difference between sex and gender to the trainees

Ms N.T.M.K, a practitioner from Nui Thanh district expressed: “Previously, I couldn't tell the difference between gender and sex, but now I can. I am aware of the potential risks to myself and have taken preventive actions to better protect myself. Thank you so much to the trainer and the class.”

The activity is part of the “Raising Voices, Creating Opportunities” project for the 2021-2024 period, funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), and implemented by ACDC in Quang Tri, Thua Thien Hue, and Quang Nam.
