Hanoi: Training on children's rights for parents/caregivers of children with disabilities and self-help groups

On March 26, 2023, the ACDC Institute organized a training course for parents and caregivers of children with disabilities in Hanoi with the theme: Online safety for children with disabilities. The training course had the participation of 26 parents and caregivers of children with disabilities. The activity is part of the project "Prevention of physical and mental violence and discrimination against children with disabilities" (AVAC) implemented by ACDC with the support of the Hong Kong Children's Rescue Organization and the coordination of the Children's Rescue Organization in Vietnam.

The lecturer explained some basic concepts and knowledge about online safety for children with disabilities.

With the guidance of experts from the Vietnet - ICT Information and Communication Technology Center, trainees learned basic concepts about the internet, cyberspace, digital citizenship, privacy rights, etc. In addition, trainees were provided with information about the risks and challenges on cyberspace for children with disabilities such as online bullying, scams, harassment, etc., ways to prevent, respond, and handle problems and risks with children with disabilities. Moreover, trainees were also provided with information on channels and sources of support when parents, caregivers, and children need help.

Trainees participated in role-playing activities to handle various situations to support children with disabilities in facing risks on the internet environment.

Many methods have been used to help trainees easily absorb knowledge such as games, role-playing, presentations, Q&A, etc. These activities help theoretical knowledge become practical and more effectively utilized. Group activities were also organized to help trainees access knowledge from different perspectives and viewpoints. Interactive activities between instructors and trainees were also utilized to transfer information and knowledge into experiences, share personal experiences, and support trainees to access information in the most practical, complete, and detailed way.
