Hanoi: The painting event “Voice of our children”

On June 24th 2023, ACDC Institute held the painting event “Voie of our children” at Adonis Hotel, Hanoi. The event was organized to support the Children’s Action Month in 2023 with the theme “Hands together reducing children’s harm.”

The event witnessed the participation of over 100 people, including 50 children with disabilities in Hanoi city. Children who participated in the event obtained a diversity of impairments: listen-and-hear impair, intellectual impair, motion impair,… Goals of the event are to enhance the awareness, solving problems related to preventing, reducing risks of children sexual abuse, strengthening the knowledge and media coverage to protect children for children with special needs, teachers, parents/ guardians through various creative and plentiful artistic shapes and forms.

In the opening remarks of the event, Mrs. Dam Vien Ha, Vice Director of ACDC Institute said: “This is the first event in the painting competition “Voice of our children”. We hope that children across the country will participate actively in the competition, express their opinions on the protection rights of children. At the same time, parents, teachers, children’s clubs, children’s parents network facilitate in all aspects for children to develop their creativity, acquire many interesting and dynamic works to contribute to the growing in awareness of the community to child protection mission.”

At the event, children together with parents had enrolled to share their thoughts on the protection of children via lots of contact and fascinating games. The mock game Funny Hugo was used in a creative way that helped children attracted to the sharing session. Specially, the event also had the engagement and enthusiastic guidance of the art teacher’s group from Green Art Center. Teachers and the support teams had brainstormed the topic with the children and inspired artistic theme for children. Children were given opportunities to cultivate their independent creativity, suitable with the ability and own artistic styles; consist of pictures, positive stories about family, school, community, and society; as well as a safe cyber environment, say no to child abuse… has been portrayed. Each artwork of disabled child has their own values and beauties, that commonly express the desire of a better life, indiscriminate, violence-forbidden to children, particularly children in need.

Mr. Vu Hoang Long, father of an impaired child, said: “Today Hanoi is raining, but when I join in the event, I’m surprised to see many children takes part in. This is a good, meaningful, and inspiring event. I hope other parents don’t miss this opportunity, let’s register and encourage children to engage the contest.”

Mr. Ta Viet Vuong, a deaf child, said: “I am very delighted of this event: when take part in this even, I was taught more on children’s rights and obtained more unknown vocabularies. Moreover, I could also draw, create the works on my own wish and hobbies.” 

The event concluded with many unique artworks from children. This is the beginning event for the drawing contest “Voice of our children”. The contest will officially launch from June 24th to August 30th in 2023 for children with age ranged from 06 to 17 and have strong passion for drawing.

This activity is part of the project "Preventing Physical and Mental Violence and Discrimination against Children with Disabilities" (abbreviated as AVAC), implemented by ACDC with the support of the Hong Kong Children's Relief Organization and coordinated by the Children's Relief Organization in Vietnam.
