Legal counseling is a long-term and regular activity of ACDC. On August 9th, ACDC collaborated with counterparts to organize legal counseling for persons with disabilities in Dakrong district, Quang Tri province. The activity had the consensus and cooperation of OPDs at the province and district levels, the Department and Division of Labors, Invalids and Social Affairs, and the Legal Aid Center.

Persons with disabilities are enthusiastically provided with consultation by consultants to their questions about state policies

Nearly 60 persons with disabilities from communes, namely Ta Rut, A Vao, A Bung, and Huc Nghi were counseled. These are mountainous, difficult, and remote communes in Dakrong district, Quang Tri province. The event’s purposes are to raise awareness of policies related to persons with disabilities and provide counseling on regulations that persons with disabilities and their families have not understood.

Counselors instructed and answered queries about identifying/re-identifying disability levels, social protection, education, vocational training, landing, health insurance, preferential loans, etc. Participants assessed the counselors' attitudes as good, with easy-to-understand guidance, convenient procedures, and the proper answers to address their issues.

Mr. Nguyen Ai Hoi – Chairman of the OPD of Dakrong district shared: “I'd like to thank ACDC and the provincial OPD for organizing today's activity on behalf of the district's persons with disabilities. Mountain residents confront numerous challenges; there are still many persons with disabilities in isolated towns and communes who are unaware of or are not yet entitled to their legal rights. I hope that following this event, commune officials and the Disability Level Assessment Council will make the necessary changes for the subjects who have been counseled. We hope that the project and the provincial OPD will continue to pay attention and arrange other useful events to assist Dakrong residents with disabilities.”

Persons with disabilities and their family members concentrate on listening and evaluating the result of the legal consultation session

Said Ms. T.T.N – A person with a disability in A Ngo commune: “I am a person with a disability, currently suffering from heart valve regurgitation, my family is very poor and cannot afford medical treatment. Today I was counseled in detail by the counselor, I know that the government has 100% health insurance support. I will apply for a transfer certificate from the district hospital to the provincial hospital for treatment. Many thanks to the project and the counselors.”

The activity is within the project “Raising Voices, Creating Opportunities” phase II, funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and implemented by ACDC in Quang Tri, Thua Thien Hue, and Quang Nam provinces.
