Model of Independent Living Center in Vietnam

On January 19th 2016, in Hanoi, Department of Social Assistance (Ministry of Labour – Invalids and Social Affairs) in cooperation with Hanoi Independent Living Center have organized a seminar namely “Model of Independent Living Center for People with Disabilities in Vietnam” to obtain the comments and ideas for the model.

The seminar was attended and hosted by Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Toan – Deputy Directorof the Department of Social Assistance;  Ms. Dang Quynh Mai – Chairwoman of the Vietnam Federation on Disability; Mr. Nguyen Trung Thanh – Deputy Manager of the Division of Social Protection Policies (Department of Social Assistance); Mr. Furihata Hiroaki – Coordinator of International Program from Human Care Association (Tokyo, Japan); Ms. Nguyen Hong Ha – Director of Hanoi Independent Living Center; participants from Independent Living Program from Hai Phong, Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City, Can Tho and participants from organizations of the PWDs, for PWDs.

On the seminar, the participants have shared the PWDs’ current situation and their assistance needs, as well as their experiences on Independent Living Model and Program in Vietnam. At the end of seminar, they have joined actively in the discussion on “Approach to Sustainable Development for Independent Living in Vietnam – Policies and Budget”.
