"When the commune officer sent out invitations to training, I intended not to go because I thought I had such a disability to do something inconvenient and embarrassing to everyone. Unexpectedly, when I came here, I heard that persons with disabilities (PWD) can also live independently, can also integrate; able to do some things with support and a favorable environment, I feel more confident. If there are training courses on PWD in the future, I would also like to continue to participate." – Mr. N.V.K - Person with disabilities in Tra Son commune, Bac Tra My district said with emotion.

“This is a very new experience for me. Today, I was able to stand in front of participants who are PWD to share the attention in daily life, guide how to make people more convenient with seemingly simple things such as: eating, drinking, wearing clothes…This makes me very happy and touched. I hope more and more PWD in the district have the opportunity to participate in training sessions like this.” Ms. T.H.L.D - Health station of Phuoc My commune, Phuoc Son district shared.

"The most meaningful thing that impressed me in this class was meeting the PWD trainer who came to our remote mountainous areas to share and talk about disability issues. When it comes to disability I feel heavy and tragic, with trainer’s sharing I felt much lighter and more confident." - Mr. N.A.T, person with disabilities in Tra Dong commune confided.

Those are the positive feedbacks from the trainers and nearly 70 participants in two training courses on independent living and disability equality for PWD and caregivers held on February 23-24, 2023 in Phuoc Son district and Bac Tra My district, Quang Nam province. The activity was organized under the coordination of ACDC and the Project Management Board “Raising Voices, Creating opportunities – Phrase II”, Quang Nam Province.

At the training course, participants learned about the concept of disability and independent living, models of disability and barriers for PWD, the importance of independent living for PWD. At the end of the training course, the participants have acquired knowledge about independent living, and accessibility to PWD in a more practically and effectively.

After this training course, the project will conduct home visits of some households with disabilities who have participated in the training to assess and advise on independent living.

The activity is within the framework of the project "Raising voices, creating opportunities - Phrase II" in Quang Nam province, funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) through ACDC./.
