Within the project "Raising voices, creating opportunities- II" funded by USAID, ACDC in collaboration with the Project Management Unit and the Department of Transport of Thua Thien Hue province organized "Training on disability equality and skills in working with persons with disabilities for managers, taxi/bus drivers, and bus assistants". The training course has attracted the participation of more than 30 drivers, driving assistants, and their managers in the province.

The participants attentively listened as Ms. Nguyễn Thị Lan Anh – Director of ACDC – provided guidance on ensuring accessibility for persons with disabilities when using taxi services

Through the training session, participants had the opportunity to acquire the useful and necessary knowledge about disability, disability inclusion, the disability model and the rights-based approach. Furthermore, policies and benefits when participating in traffic for persons with disabilities such as exemption and reduction in ticket prices, getting priority when buying tickets, priority seating, and free baggage fees have also been specifically introduced to the trainees. In particular, under the guidance of lecturers, trainees have practiced skills in guiding persons with disabilities to access public passenger vehicles such as buses and taxis. This not only provides essential skills for trainees but also contributes to improving service attitudes and awareness in supporting persons with disabilities when participating in traffic in the community.

The trainees actively participated in the practical session by role-playing as persons with visual impairments to gain a deeper understanding of their experience when accessing transportation services

Mr. T.X.C – Vietnam – Ha Noi Tourism Joint Stock Company shared “I find this training course is very necessary and meaningful. Transport companies should apply what they have learned in their services to support passengers who are persons with disabilities better. Hopefully, there will be more such training courses like this in the future.”

The training course provided useful knowledge and skills to assist persons with disabilities for drivers, driving assistants, and their managers in the province. In the coming time, the project will continue to coordinate with local departments and agencies in organizing activities to contribute to building an inclusive environment for persons with disabilities when participating in traffic.
