Nowadays, women in general and women with disabilities in particular have been experiencing at least one form of violence such as sexual violence, mental and financial violence,… Therefore, on May 30-31, 2022, in Thua Thien Hue province, the Action to the Community Development Institute (ACDC) coordinated with the Provincial Project Management Unit to organize a training course on "Gender-based violence issues for persons with disabilities and caregivers”.

The trainees had lively group discussions under the enthusiastic guidance of the trainer

Under the connection and enthusiastic guidance of a group of source lecturers, more than 60 trainees in Huong Thuy town and Hue city confidently and openly shared their own opinions and stories. Through a variety of teaching methods such as group exercises, group discussions, case studies and games, knowledge about sex and gender, skills to recognize the risks of violence as well as measures to prevent gender-based violence against persons with disabilities have also been clearly imparted and easily understood. In the lively and joyful class atmosphere, the students boldly discussed and contributed ideas to build the lesson.

Trainees present statements about situations related to gender-based violence for persons with disabilities

Through the training course, women with disabilities and caregivers have gained more useful knowledge and trained more necessary skills to protect themselves and those around them from the risks of violence. The course has received many positive comments from participants:

“Today is my first time going to training, they also invited me to go like this before but I felt shy so I didn’t go. The class is very meaningful for persons with disabilities like me. If there is such an activity in the future, I will arrange to participate to learn more things .” Ms. L.T.C.V, a person with a disability in Huong Thuy town.

“I have participated in many trainings and activities for persons with disabilities, but this is the first time I have participated in a training like this. This activity helps me learn a lot of useful knowledge, make many friends and share experiences together. I found that in a developed society like this, everyone has their own phone to watch movies and read newspapers, but few people go online to search and learn more about these topics. Today's program is really helpful for persons with disabilities."- B.T.A, a person with a disability in Huong Thuy town.

“A day of learning more interesting things and meeting many persons with disabilities makes me very happy. The knowledge about forms of violence and gender is very useful to everyone” - Ms. T.T.T, a person with a disability in Hue city.

This is an activity within the framework of the project "Raising voices, creating opportunities for persons with disabilities" in the 2021-2024 period in Thua Thien Hue province. In the coming time, the project will have many practical activities to ensure the rights and improve the quality of life of persons with disabilities in the community.
