Quang Ngai: Direct support provided to persons with disabilities and their families to improve living conditions and promote social inclusion

The activity aimed to support persons with disabilities and their families in accessing appropriate assistive devices and equipment based on their specific needs and circumstances. This support contributed to improving the home living environment, enhancing safety, preventing risks, and increasing the ability of persons with disabilities to perform daily living activities.

Beyond the provision of equipment, the project also supported persons with disabilities and their caregivers in using the devices properly, adjusting them to suit individual needs, and developing plans for their use and maintenance to ensure long-term effectiveness.

A specialist guides a person with a disability through appropriate home-based mobility exercises

During this support round, assistive devices and equipment were selected based on assessments of each beneficiary’s needs, ability to perform daily activities, housing conditions, and economic circumstances. Providing appropriate support based on actual needs contributed to increased independence in daily living and created better conditions for persons with disabilities to participate more actively in community life.

The activity was supported by a team of trainers, including commune health station staff, core persons with disabilities, and experts from the School of Medical Technology, Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy. The experts directly provided consultation, technical guidance, and device adjustments tailored to each individual case, improving effectiveness and ensuring safety during long-term use.

Positive changes were shared by the beneficiaries themselves. Ms. Y.H., a person with a disability in Duc Nong Commune, shared: “Previously, I only practiced simple exercises. After receiving guidance on suitable exercises, I can raise my arm higher and my breathing has become more regulated. I feel that I have changed a lot and become more confident in life.”

Mr. V.P.H., the parent of V.T.M.L., a person with a disability in Dak To Commune, said: “Our family sincerely appreciates the project’s support with practical equipment. These devices not only help my child perform daily activities more conveniently but also reduce dependence on family members.”

According to Ms. V.T.H., a staff member of Bo Y Commune Health Station: “The project’s support is very meaningful and practical. I am very happy to see that persons with disabilities and their families now have better conditions to carry out daily activities more conveniently, safely, and meaningfully.”

Through this activity, the project continues to reaffirm its person-centered approach, ensuring that assistive devices are selected in accordance with actual needs. This contributes to improving living conditions, increasing independence, and promoting the participation of persons with disabilities in family and community activities.
