On May 21, 2025, in Dong Ha City, Quang Tri Province, Action to the Community Development Institute (ACDC), in collaboration with the Quang Tri Department of Health, organized a technical meeting to discuss a series of psychosocial support activities for persons with disabilities and their family members.
Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Ha Lam Chi, Deputy Director of the Quang Tri Department of Health, emphasized the practical significance of psychosocial support. He highlighted that this is one of the key factors contributing to prevention and early intervention efforts, helping to reduce the burden on the healthcare system, prevent long-term psychological harm, and improve the quality of life and social inclusion of persons with disabilities and their families.

At the meeting, a representative from the Department of Health delivered an overview report on the current state of mental health care services in the locality. The report highlighted existing gaps in the current support system and shared insights from previously implemented psychosocial support models.
A representative from ACDC also shared the project's aspirations to develop a series of effective psychosocial support activities tailored to the specific context and conditions of Quang Tri. A key highlight is the community-based psychosocial support model, which is implemented by non-specialist support personnel. This approach leverages existing local resources and focuses on building the capacity of staff from relevant agencies.

Psychology experts attending the meeting contributed in-depth analyses on the strategic direction of psychosocial support for persons with disabilities and their families. The tools and methods introduced have been proven effective and are well-suited for use in community-based mental health care programs.
The meeting saw active and engaging discussions among stakeholders on the roles and involvement of each entity in implementing psychosocial support activities. Several practical solutions were also proposed to enhance the effectiveness of interventions.
The activity is a key component of the project “Independent living and social inclusion for persons with disabilities in Quang Tri” implemented by ACDC with funding from Green Cross Switzerland.
