Recently, the Action to the Community Development Institute (ACDC), in collaboration with the Hue City Association of Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin, completed the activity "Providing Scholarships for Students from Families of Agent Orange Victims" in Hue City. Through this activity, five scholarships with a total value of 32 million VND (6.4 million VND per student) were awarded to five students who are the second- and third-generation descendants of families affected by Agent Orange. The scholarships helped cover educational expenses and ease the financial burden on their families.
The programme brought together approximately 20 participants, including representatives of the Executive Committee and staff of the Hue City Association of Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin, five scholarship recipients from the second and third generations of families of Agent Orange victims, and their family members from the communes of Phu Loc, Loc An, Phu Vang, and Khe Tre in Hue City. The scholarship award ceremony was attended by representatives and local officers of the Hue City Association of Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin, the leadership of ACDC, and representatives of the beneficiary families.
The scholarships provide students with additional financial support for their education while helping reduce the financial burden on their families. They also encourage the students to continue striving in their studies, improve their educational opportunities, and contribute to enhancing the quality of life of families of Agent Orange victims in the local community.
Mr. Tran Van Trung, Chairman of the Hue City Association of Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin, shared: "The project's scholarship programme for students from families of Agent Orange victims is a meaningful initiative that creates better opportunities for the students to pursue their education more effectively. We hope that, through this initiative, the students will continue to make greater efforts in all aspects of their lives, especially in their studies. On behalf of the Association, I would also like to express our sincere appreciation to the project and ACDC for their partnership and support in implementing this meaningful scholarship programme."
Ms. Ngo Thi Giau, mother of Phan Van Quy (a Grade 2 student in Class 2/2 at Thi Tran 1 Primary School) in Phu Loc Commune, shared: "I would like to sincerely thank ACDC and the project for providing scholarships to students from families of Agent Orange victims. I promise that the scholarship will be used solely for my child's education. I will continue to encourage and support him to study hard so that he will live up to the expectations of his teachers, family, and the project team."
The scholarship programme provides not only financial assistance but also meaningful encouragement, giving students greater confidence and motivation to excel in their studies. Through this activity, ACDC and its partners continue to promote the spirit of sharing and solidarity by supporting students from disadvantaged families of Agent Orange victims, helping create opportunities for them to continue striving for a better future.
This activity was implemented under the Project "Promoting Social Inclusion for Persons with Disabilities and Agent Orange Victims in Hue City", funded by the Green Cross Switzerland Office in Vietnam (GCCH). ACDC is the lead implementing organization, while the Association in Support of Vietnamese Handicapped and Orphans and the Hue city Association for Victims of Agent Orange/dioxin are the coordinating partners implementing the project in Hue City.
