Establishment of the first Association of Persons with Disabilities in Bac Kan

The program was attended by more than 200 delegates and guests including Mr. Dang Van Thanh - Permanent Vice President, Vietnam Association for Persons with disabilities; Ms. Nguyen Thi Lan Anh – Director of Action to the Community Development Institute (ACDC); Mr. Dao Quang Minh - Program Leader, ChildFund Vietnam; Mr. Nong Quang Ke - District Commissioner, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee, Head of The Management Board of Na Ri District Community Development Program; representatives of the Departments of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs, Department of Health, Association for the Protection of Children with Disabilities and Orphans of Bac Kan Province; with persons with disabilities in Na Ri district. In particular, the congress also had the online participation of Chongqing District Self-Help Group and Quang Hoa District Self-Reliance Group, Cao Bang.

The Congress agreed and elected 07 members of the Executive Committee, Na Ri District Association of Persons with disabilities - Class I, including:

• Mr. Nong Van Chuong, Chairman
• Mr. Lang Chi Nguyen, Vice President
• Ms. Nong Thi Hau, Vice President
• Mr. Le Cong Vinh, Mr. Nong Van Binh, Ms. Ma Thi Thon and Mr. Hoang Thanh Van are Commissioners

At the congress, Na Ri District Association of Persons with disabilities reported the results of the activities of the Campaign Committee to establish the association in recent years, as well as adopted the strategic direction of the Association in the coming time and the Charter of the Association.

The establishment of the Association of Persons with disabilities is a confirmation of the efforts of the Campaign committee to establish Na Ri District Association for Persons with disabilities in particular and the success of the national disability empowerment movement in general., is also a success for the projects to support persons with disabilities that ACDC and ChildFund Vietnam have promoted in the period of 2018 - 2020 and 2019 - 2022 locally.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Lan Anh - Director of ACDC shared: "In 2018, we started to accompany Na Ri district with the project "We can do it"' implemented by ChildFund and ACDC in the period of 2018 - 2020. This is the first milestone for the development of the District Association of Persons with disabilities. The project has promoted the inclusion of persons with disabilities through the implementation of activities to raise awareness and capacity of the community, local officials and persons with disabilities and families of persons with disabilities; enhance rehabilitation and diversify the livelihoods of persons with disabilities. Thereby making proposals to contribute to improving the quality and efficiency of projects on persons with disabilities in the project areas that we - ACDC and ChildFund will implement in the present and in the future.

Since 2016, ACDC has been delighted and proud to have promoted and supported the creation of 10 organizations of persons with disabilities, supporting capacity building and networking for 23 provincial disability associations nationwide. And today's Na Ri District Congress of Persons with disabilities is an event that contributes to the common goal that ACDC is promoting."

The congress was a great success with the support of Na Ri District People's Committee, ACDC and ChildFund Vietnam. Operating within the framework of the "Right to Study" project funded by the Australian Government (ANCP) through ChildFund Vietnam. In the coming time, Na Ri District Association of Persons with disabilities also pledged to work effectively to promote the growing network of the Association, the position and voice of persons with disabilities are increasing, the economic life of its members are increasing.
