From September 5 - 10, 2026, the Action to the Community Development Institute (ACDC), in coordination with the Quang Tri Department of Health, provided assistive devices and guidance on their use to 84 persons with disabilities across the province. The activity was carried out under the projects “Independent Living and Social Inclusion for Persons with Disabilities in Quang Tri, Vietnam” and “Enhancing Livelihood and Well-being of Persons with Disabilities in Quang Tri Province, Vietnam, Phase in 2026,” funded by Green Cross Switzerland (GCCH).
During this round, the project team, together with rehabilitation technicians and health station staff, visited the homes of persons with disabilities to deliver the devices. The devices were selected and prescribed based on the individual support needs and mobility abilities of each person, helping them move more easily, carry out daily activities, and continue their rehabilitation exercises at home.
The assistive devices provided during this round included wheelchairs, tricycles, shower chairs, walking frames, and rehabilitation exercise equipment, such as 3-in-1 rehabilitation exercise chairs, multifunctional cycling exercise chairs, and specialized bathing beds.
Technicians guide a person with a disability in using rehabilitation exercise equipment at home
At each household, the technicians directly assembled and checked the devices to ensure proper installation and safe use in the home environment. Each device was carefully adjusted to suit the individual's physical condition and mobility abilities as closely as possible. The technicians also provided detailed guidance on how to use, practice with, and maintain the devices, helping users operate them safely and effectively and prolonging their service life.
Ms. D.T.D., a person with a physical disability in Ai Tu, shared: “I am very happy to receive assistive devices from the project to support my rehabilitation exercises and daily activities. In the coming time, I will try to stay persistent and follow the technicians' instructions so that I can improve my health condition. I am very grateful to the project.”
Assistive devices are delivered to the family, helping support persons with disabilities in mobility and daily activities
For families of persons with disabilities who require substantial assistance with daily activities, an appropriate assistive device can make a meaningful and practical difference.
Ms. D.T.H., mother of Thinh, a person with a disability in Cua Tung Commune, shared emotionally: “My son Thinh has physical disabilities affecting both his arms and legs, and he needs assistance with all his daily personal activities. Today, the project provided us with a multifunctional bathing bed that can be raised and lowered, folded, and moved, making it much easier for us to care for him. Our family is truly grateful to the project.”
The provision of assistive devices is being implemented in phases, in line with the process of completing, delivering, and adjusting the devices. In addition to the beneficiaries supported from September 5 - 10, the remaining beneficiaries will continue to receive their devices and guidance on their use in September and October 2026.
Through this activity, the projects not only provide persons with disabilities with better conditions for mobility, rehabilitation exercises, and daily activities, but also contribute to enhancing their autonomy and participation in everyday life. At the same time, appropriate assistive devices make it easier for families to provide support and care for persons with disabilities at home.
