Hue city: Provide assistive devices and prostheses for persons with disabilities

From October 2025 to November 2025, the Action to the Community Development Institute (ACDC) distributed assistive devices and prostheses to 10 persons with disabilities in Thanh Thuy, Huong Thuy and Phu Bai wards of Hue City. This activity forms part of a series of rehabilitation interventions for persons with disabilities under the Project “Improving the quality of life of persons with disabilities in provinces sprayed with Agent Orange (Inclusion 1 Project), under the leadership of National Action Center for Toxic Chemicals and Environmental Treatment (NACCET) - Ministry of National Defense, coordinated by the Center for Creative Initiatives in Health and Population (CCIHP), and implemented by ACDC in the Central Vietnam region.

The activity organized to enable persons with disabilities to access suitable assistive devices that improve mobility, activities of daily living, and functional recovery in everyday life.

The assistive devices and equipment provided included wheelchairs, seating for children with disabilities, standing training frames, stainless-steel crutches, walking frames, and various types of prostheses customized to each individual’s condition. During implementation, technical staff from the Da Nang Orthopedics and Rehabilitation Hospital and the multidisciplinary rehabilitation team directly measured, fitted, instructed in use, and guided rehabilitation exercises for the beneficiaries at their homes.

In addition to distribution, the multidisciplinary rehabilitation team conducted follow-up monitoring and evaluation after use to ensure that devices were appropriate, safe, and delivered maximal benefit for mobility and daily functioning. Persons with disabilities and their families also received specific guidance on correct use, maintenance of devices, and home-based rehabilitation exercises.

Sharing her joy upon receiving a new prosthesis, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Tuyet Nguyet said, “This prosthesis feels more stable and much lighter than the old one”.

Ms. Vo Thi Ha, a family member of a beneficiary, remarked, “I hope my grandchild will be able to stand and walk. With this standing training frame, I hope my grandchild will have better rehabilitation outcomes”.

This round of provide of assistive devices and prostheses not only brought joy and opportunities for improved mobility to persons with disabilities but also contributed to promoting social inclusion, enhancing quality of life, and reaffirming Inclusion 1 Project commitment to comprehensive support for persons with disabilities at the local level.

In the early days of the new year, from January 6–7, 2026, the ACDC Institute coordinated with the Da Nang Department of Health and local authorities to conduct a mid-term monitoring visit of livelihood support activities for 15 households of persons with disabilities in seven communes of the city, including Thang An, Thang Dien, Thang Phu, Duy Xuyen, Nam Phuoc, Thu Bon, and Duy Nghia.

Sewing machines provided to support livelihoods for women with disabilities in Hue

In the days leading up to the Lunar New Year, on 6 February 2026, the Action to the Community Development Institute (ACDC) organized the handover of sewing machines and equipment for home-based garment production to two households of women with disabilities in Hue City. The programme was supported by “Love, Tito’s”. The handover took place following a period of assessment, preparation, and completion, with the aim of enabling persons with disabilities to work stably from home, gradually increase their income, and improve their quality of life.
