Lan Phuong came down with scoliosis in grade 3. From then on, her family embarked on a new chapter of endless hospital visits. Her self-consciousness prevented her from stepping a foot outside. She was afraid of the curious look of everyone and the pointing fingers of children as they called her names like "Liu Yong" or "Hunchback Prime Minister". Those were the times Phuong wished to disappear from her life so that she would never have to hear such hurtful words again. Due to many objective and subjective factors, persons with disabilities, especially women and girls with disabilities, are a group at high risk of gender-based violence. According to the Impact Assessment Report on gender-based violence against women and girls with disabilities of the project "Strengthening opportunities and enhancing the status of persons with disabilities – phase 2", a significant proportion of women and girls with disabilities have experienced gender-based violence in various forms. This report also points out that the skills of stakeholders to support women and girls with disabilities experiencing gender-based violence still have certain limitations; inter-sectoral coordination to prevent gender-based violence has not yet been highly effective.

The activity attracted the participation of more than 60 persons with disabilities/caregivers, including 26 women with disabilities from Cam Lo, Trieu Phong, and Dong Ha districts.
