Story of Change
“In the past, I couldn’t do anything for myself.. But in the present, I am capable of performing daily chores by myself such as bathing, doing personal hygiene, and able to assist my wife in simple household activities such as cleaning, cooking,… I feel very happy, satisfied, because my life has more significant meanings.”
Those were sharing words of Dang Sy Binh, a person with disability in Ai Tu village, Trieu Ai commune, Trieu Phong district, Quang Tri province. In 2020, after a high fever and seizures made he became a person with disabilities in two paralyzed legs and have no feelings at all. “After that shock, I felt dissapointed, anxious and felt myself was useless”. He shared when remembering that period.
Binh meets many troubles in moving, now he can move easier thanks to the passionate guidance in motion training of rehabilitation experts
After a period of time under treatment in hospital, he was discharged back home with two weakened legs, cannot freely moving. All daily living activities of him have to depend on the family. The project “Independent Living for Persons with Disabilities” has reached, mentally motivated, provided guidances for Binh with recovery rehabilitation exercises, walk training by walking frame, walk training by walkingstick.
“Together with the efforts, striving of one’s self and the encouragement of family, neighbors, especially the support of the project, I realize the need to be stronger in living independent to reduce the burden and dependency to family. I sincerely appreciate the assistance of the project, the encouragement and sharings of brothers, sisters with disabilities. I hope the project will have more programs like these to support more people with disabilities to have more programs like these, so to assist other handicapped people to enjoy community inclusion opportunties like me.”
Nowadays, Mr Binh completely control over his body and be more confident in moving conveniently
Mr Binh is among many persons with disabilities whose received benefits from the project and turn to be more independent in living. This is a project conducted by the ACDC since Match 2020 to December 2022 in 5 districts/ cities: Vinh Linh, Cam Lo, Trieu Phong, Hai Lang and Dong Ha, of Quang Tri province.
