On September 24-25, the "Training on children's rights for children with disabilities" was held in Da Nang. The training course was organized by ACDC in collaboration with the Danang Center for IEDS within the framework of the project "Increased accountability to eliminate violence and discrimination against children with disabilities”. The project is funded by Save the Children Hong Kong and coordinated by Save the Children Vietnam.
The training course had the participation of Ms Do Thi Do Quyen - Director of the Center, Ms Dang Thanh Tung - Deputy Director of the Center and teachers joined and supported the students.
The activity attracted the participation of 15 disabled children with various disabilities such as visual disabilities, movement disabilities, hearing and speech disabilities. Master Tran Thi Thu from the National Center for Special Education led the entire training course. Many activities were organized such as role-playing, group discussions, and presentations to help children raise their awareness of children's rights, especially the right to participate and the right to protection. The training course is also an opportunity for children to express their voices and opinions and practice skills such as small group leadership, presentation, and listening skills. These are all extremely necessary skills for children to be able to initiate and organize their activities.
V.Q.A, a child with hearing and speaking disabilities, shared: “I want more books about rights, teaching rights-related sign words or videos teaching about rights. When I come home, if my parents hit me, I will say I learned about Children's Rights. I will explain to them that it is wrong to hit me.”
Sharing the plans after being provided with knowledge about children's rights, N.V.D.P, a child with visual disabilities shared: I will organize a party and in it will popularize children's rights. I can organize clubs, and meetings between blind and non-disabled people, play games together and disseminate knowledge about children's rights.
At the end of the training, most of the children affirmed that the class was useful and looked forward to the next training sessions. This is the first activity of the project for children with disabilities in Da Nang. In the future, the project will continue to carry out various activities to assist children, parents, carers, and communities raise awareness of children's rights, especially children with disabilities.
