On June 23, 2021, the bus access route for persons with disabilities in some fixed routes in Quang Nam was tested and put into operation. The purpose of this implementation is to improve the quality of public passenger transport services by bus and ensure access for persons with disabilities. The project is part of the "Enhancing Opportunities and Enhancing Opportunities for Persons with Disabilities" project implemented by ACDC under USAID funding.
Under the support of the project, the Department of Transport and Quang Nam Infrastructure Development Investment Joint Stock Company have completed the installation of access routes with the first 8 buses running on Tam Ky - Chu Lai airport and Tam Ky - Dien Nam city. The bus route has been installed with sound system and station up-and-down notification screen system to support forms of disability such as visual impairment, hearing loss and provide a variety of information for passengers, making it easy for passengers to access the bus, thereby improving the quality of service of the bus. This is the achievement of promoting the implementation of the pilot plan of the model bus route in Quang Nam province due to the project "Enhancing opportunities and enhancing the status of persons with disabilities" and the Institute of Transport Strategy and Development (TDSI).
In addition, in the coming time, the Quang Nam Provincial Department of Transport will also support the monitoring of the pilot implementation of the bus route to support access; promote the integration of access transport proposals into the development plan of the Department of Transport annually, ensuring the targets and targets according to the roadmap outlined in plan No. 7704/KH-UBND on assistance to persons with disabilities in Quang Nam province for the period of 2021-2030 signed by the Provincial People's Committee on December 29, 2020. In particular, priority is given to developing a plan/roadmap for the development of specific bus shelter infrastructure to ensure an effective and sustainable model.
It is expected that ACDC also plans to continue supporting the bus access waiting house model as well as activities to promote universal access to traffic in the project provinces, including Quang Nam province.
