At the examination sessions, all women with disabilities were examined for items of general internal medicine, gynecology, ultrasound, tests, etc. Especially, after having the results, the doctors conducted medical counseling on identified health problems and essential self-care skills for persons with disabilities participated.
Volunteers actively support girls with disabilities during the medical examination
In Quang Nam, ACDC has coordinated with the Quang Nam Provincial Project Management Unit to conduct medical examinations for 101 women with disabilities in the 18-60 age bracket in two districts of Que Son and Phuoc Son. This activity is to improve access to health care services in general and reproductive health in particular, and at the same time to promptly detect health problems, especially those related to reproductive health for women with disabilities in Quang Nam province.
A lot of positive feedback about the activity was recorded during the process:
“I'm so glad to be invited for a health check-up! Normally, I only go to the doctor when it’s too painful, but I only check where I am hurting, it is not easy to be examined as much as today. Thanks for this examination, I know how my health is." - Ms. L.T.H - A person with a disability in Que Minh commune, Que Son district, Quang Nam province.
For me, my health comes first, it is very appreciated that the project has created favorable conditions for persons with disabilities. This activity is very practical and useful to help detect illness, especially for women with disabilities, weak legs and soft hands. Like me, my hand is like this, but there are many other people who are much more pitiful. I really want that in the near future there will be more such examinations and if possible, I hope to be examined at the upper level with more modern equipment. Today, I feel very happy, everyone is very enthusiastic, caring and happy.” - Ms. L.T.L - A person with a disability in Loc Thuy commune, Phu Loc district, Thua Thien Hue province.
Indeed, there are many people who cannot afford to be examined, women like me are economically dependent on their husbands, so it is very difficult to spend a large amount of money to go to the doctor. I’d like to say thank you to the project and I am so glad to have the opportunity to go to the doctor to know my health status. I hope there is an activity like this every year for women with disabilities like me.” - Ms. N.T.T - a person with a disability in Huong Xuan commune, Huong Tra town, Thua Thien Hue province.
“It is very great to get an opportunity to have a health check-up like this. I’d like to say thank you to organizations for taking care of the health of persons with disabilities and disadvantaged people in society. This is really a meaningful and very humane activity.” - Ms. L.T.H.A a person with a disability in Huong Tra town, Thua Thien Hue province.
“Now I feel happy for persons with disabilities, I had to try to arrange my work to take my sister to the doctor, my sister is a person with a cognitive disability, her life is very difficult, I am very grateful to relevant organizations and parties caring about persons with disabilities like my sister.” - Ms. T.T. X - A relative of a person with a disability in Huong Toan commune, Huong Tra town, Thua Thien Hue province.
This examination activity is one of the practical activities in health care for persons with disabilities in general and reproductive health care for women with disabilities in particular. The program is within the framework of the project "Raising voice, creating opportunity for persons with disabilities" implemented by ACDC in collaboration with local partners in 3 provinces of Thua Thien Hue, Quang Tri, and Quang Nam under the sponsorship of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The local partners are very welcome and look forward to having more health checkups in the future, creating more opportunities for women with disabilities to access health care services, and promoting the ability to live independently in the community.
