In December 2022, the Action to the Community Development Institute (ACDC) organized 03 events to learn about Children's Rights for parents and carers of children with disabilities in Hanoi and Da Nang. Activities co-organized by ACDC, Organisation of Persons with Disabilities, and Support Centers for Children with Disabilities.

A group discussion of parents and carers of children with disabilities in Da Nang

The event attracted more than 100 people who are parents and caregivers of children with disabilities. The moderators in the communication session are the trainees who have received training from previous knowledge and skills enhancement training courses. The content revolves around children's rights, focusing on participatory rights groups and protection rights. In particular, the contents of sexual assault on children and prevention were particularly interesting and discussed by participants. At the end of the session, all participants expressed their desire to have more of these useful events so that parents could share and support information about children's rights in general and CWD in particular.

Communication coordinator reviews and comments on the group's lecture content

Nguyen Quang Manh, a communication coordinator at the Da Nang event, said, "After participating in two training courses on children's rights, I am happy to share the knowledge I have learned with parents of deaf children here. I hope that parents will have more knowledge to protect their children."

Ms Chu Thi Thanh Huong, event communication coordinator in Hanoi shared and suggested solutions for supporting children with disabilities

Ms Nguyen Thi Thanh Huong, Chairman of Vietnam's Association of Parents of Deaf and Deaf Children, also the event communication coordinator in Hanoi, said: "We appreciate the opportunities to share knowledge with parents and teachers who care for CWD. Many parents speak of the need for learning and sharing. It's a very rare opportunity that we've had. The session went smoothly, with a lot of useful knowledge, helping to unite the members of the Organisation."

Trainees share useful information in a lively training session

Ms Dao Thu Thuy, Director of the S.E.E.D Center also said: “The line between protecting children's rights and violating rights is often very thin. Parents and carers need to understand the knowledge to properly and appropriately apply it in school, family and social settings. We thank ACDC, the SC sponsor, for providing this opportunity to the Center as well as to the parents of the children at our Center.”

The communication events series is within the framework of the project "Increased accountability to eliminate violence and discrimination against children with disabilities" (AVAC) implemented by ACDC under the sponsorship of Save the Children Hong Kong and the coordination of Save the Children Vietnam. Additionally, this activity concludes the first year of the project, which worked with caregivers and children with disabilities, and makes a promise for more creative and new activities in the following year.
