Quang Nam: Training on gender-based violence prevention for relevant agencies

Due to many objective and subjective factors, persons with disabilities, especially women and girls with disabilities, are at high risk of gender violence. To strengthen knowledge and skills to support persons with disabilities with gender violence to relevant agencies, on November 29-30, 2022 in Tam Ky city, Quang Nam province, a training course on "Prevention of gender-based violence against persons with disabilities for relevant agencies" was held.

Under the enthusiastic guidance of the lecturer, the trainees listened attentively to the content on the prevention of gender-based violence against persons with disabilities to relevant agencies

The program had the attendance and opening speech of Ms Pham Thi Kim Phuong, Deputy Head of the Social Protection Department, Department of Labor - Invalids and Social Affairs, Quang Nam province. The training course attracted the participation of more than 40 health and legal aid/ civil status justice workers, Women's Union, Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs officers, and Provincial and district-level Disabled People's Associations of Nong Son, Phu Ninh, Nam Tra My, Hiep Duc. The training course provided basic knowledge and skills on the prevention of gender-based violence against persons with disabilities; special focus on the process and skill of case management and networking.

Practitioners lively discussion on supporting persons with disabilities in preventing gender-based violence

Mr V. V. T - Deputy Head of the Justice Department, Hiep Duc district said: “I myself am a judicial officer, I have also been able to share relevant content. However, this training course I found extremely meaningful. It assisted me in better understanding the process of receiving a case via the sharing of lecturers and students in the class, allowing me to gain a lot of practical experience that I would utilise in my profession.”

Participants present their views on situations that occur when persons with disabilities face difficulties in gender-based violence

At the end of the training session, Ms H. T. P - an officer from the health station of Phuoc Ninh commune, Nong Son district shared: “The training course is really meaningful to me. I frequently attend professional workshops, and I've never been to a class with so many agencies. Having been involved in dealing with local circumstances during the training process, I acquired a lot of things, the most essential of which was the coordination and engagement of associated organisations to assist the subjects in the most timely and effective manner.”

The participants were delighted to receive certificates of achievement for the training programme on preventing gender-based violence against persons with disabilities for responsible authorities

The activity is organized by ACDC in collaboration with the Project Management Board “Raising Voices, Creating Opportunities Project, phase 2” in Quang Nam province under the sponsorship of USAID Vietnam. The training course has also taken the first step in establishing a network of related units in each district to strengthen coordination, sharing experiences, support and deal with cases of gender violence that are disabled.

From 12 - 15 June 2026, the Action to the Community Development Institute (ACDC), in coordination with the Gia Lai Provincial Department of Health, Hoai Nhon Medical Center, Phu My Medical Center, and local commune health stations, implemented the activity “Direct Support for Persons with Disabilities and Their Families to Improve Living Conditions and Social Inclusion” in five communes and wards: Hoai Nhon, Hoai Nhon Bac, Tam Quan, Phu My Nam, and Phu My.

Quang Tri: Launch of Mental Health Support Groups for Persons with Disabilities and Family Members in 2026

To strengthen mental health support for persons with disabilities and their family members, on June 10th and 12th, 2026, the Action to the Community Development Institute (ACDC), in coordination with the Department of Health, organized the first meetings of three mental health support groups in Vinh Hoang, Gio Linh, and Trieu Phong communes. The activity is part of the project “Independent living and social inclusion for persons with disabilities in Quang Tri, Vietnam” funded by Green Cross Switzerland (GCCH) through ACDC.
