On July 29 and 30, 2022, in Thua Thien Hue province, Action to the Community Development Institute (ACDC) in collaboration with the Project Management Unit organized home visits and consultations for persons with disabilities in two areas of A Luoi district and Huong Tra town. This is a practical activity to improve the ability to live independently and integrate into the community for persons with disabilities.

Members of the advisory group include social and cultural officers, commune health officers, and members of local OPDs with the support of experienced advisors from the Rehabilitation Hospital and the Organization of persons with disabilities - Supporting persons with Disabilities and Orphans in Thua Thien Hue Province.

After 2 days, 32 households of persons with disabilities were consulted on necessary issues about independent living, house renovation, and optimal space arrangement, convenience for moving and living. This not only contributes to minimizing the risk of accidents but also improves persons with disabilities’ ability to live independently as well as reduces the dependence on their families. In addition, procedures on loans, vocational training, and policies related to persons with disabilities were counseled clearly and specifically by the officials. By contacting and counseling, the participating officers had the opportunity to practice the knowledge that they have learned through the training courses, practice more counseling skills as well as grasp information about the circumstances of persons with disabilities in the locality.

The activity has received a lot of positive feedback

Mr. H.V.A - a person with a disability in A Luoi district shared: “Thank you for taking care of persons with disabilities like us. Today I feel very happy, the consultation and sharing of the officials are very helpful. I will try to renovate according to the guide.”

Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Mai – a social and cultural officer of Huong Tra town shared: “Actually when participating in this activity, I have learned and cultivated many things. Persons with disabilities are given specific support, counseled on their disability, and guided to be able to live more independently and meaningfully. Above all, persons with disabilities also shared that they found motivation and confidence as well as getting answers to their questions, helping them to be more confident in life. I myself also learn more knowledge and dig deeper into the life of persons with disabilities

The program is within the project "Raising voices, creating opportunities for persons with disabilities for the period 2021 - 2024" funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). In the coming time, the project will continue to implement many activities to improve capacity and promote social assistance for persons with disabilities in the locality.
