Continuing the series of health care activities for persons with disabilities in general and reproductive health care for women with disabilities in particular, on October 29th - 30th, 2022, Action to the Community Development Institute (ACDC) coordinated with the Project Management Unit and local agencies in Thua Thien Hue province to organize reproductive health check-ups for more than 100 women with disabilities in Quang Dien district and Huong Thuy town.

Women with disabilities were examined for many facets such as general internal medicine, Oral and MaxilloFacial examinations, gynecology, ultrasound, tests, etc. After having the results, the doctors conducted preliminary conclusions and counseled on health issues as well as guided some necessary self-care skills. This activity not only enhances the accessibility to health care services but also detects diseases timely, especially problems related to reproductive health for women with disabilities.

Ms. N.T.N, a person with a disability living in Huong Thuy town shared: "I’d like to say “thank you” to the project for giving us the opportunity to go to the doctor to know our health and then detect diseases timely”.

Ms. T.T.B from Huong Thuy town said: “I feel very happy, this activity is really helpful when taking care of women with disabilities like me. I’d like to say “thank you” to the organizers for helping everyone."

The program has received enthusiastic welcome and support from local partners such as the Health Center, and the OPDs at district and town levels. Both sides hope that more medical examinations will be held in the future, creating more opportunities for women with disabilities to access healthcare services, and promoting independent living in the community.

Before leaving, Ms. H.T.T, a person with a disability from Quang Dien district touchingly expressed: “Today not only me but also everyone is very happy, thank you for taking care of persons with disabilities. This is a very meaningful activity. A lot of households are very difficult. Many people live very far from the hospital, so they rarely come here. However, it's so thoughtful to have a car to pick us up like this. Thank you.”

The activity is within the project "Raising voices, creating opportunities for persons with disabilities - phase II" funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The project hopes that this activity will contribute to raising awareness, self-protection, and health care, especially reproductive health for women with disabilities. In the coming time, the project will implement more similar activities to increase the opportunity of accessing health check-up services for women with disabilities in the province.
