Activity
From late July to early September 2026, 56 persons with disabilities across 18 communes and wards in Quang Tri Province received prosthetic and orthotic devices, helping improve their mobility, increase their independence in daily activities, and create more opportunities for them to participate confidently in education, work, and community activities.
The activity was implemented by the Action to the Community Development Institute (ACDC), in coordination with the Quang Tri Department of Health, the Quang Tri Association of Persons with Disabilities, Agent Orange Victims, Support for Persons with Disabilities and Protection of Children's Rights, and other relevant organizations, as part of the projects “Independent Living and Social Inclusion for Persons with Disabilities in Quang Tri, Vietnam” and “Enhancing Livelihood and Well-being of Persons with Disabilities in Quang Tri Province, Vietnam, Phase in 2026,” funded by Green Cross Switzerland (GCCH).

To ensure that the assistive devices were appropriate for each person's disability, physical condition, and individual needs, the support process was carefully implemented through multiple steps, including screening, support needs assessment, measurements, casting, trial fitting, adjustment, finalization, and delivery. The process received technical support from rehabilitation technicians from Da Nang Orthopedics and Rehabilitation Hospital, with close coordination from staff of local Health Stations.
In addition to providing the devices, the project closely followed up on each case and provided persons with disabilities and their families with guidance on how to use and maintain the devices safely and effectively, helping them make the best use of the devices throughout their use. After being put into use for a period of time, these devices have brought positive changes and great joy to persons with disabilities and their families.

Ms. D.T.L.A. from Vinh Linh Commune shared: “The prosthetic leg provided by the project is very suitable for my child's physical condition, so it is easier for my child to walk and feel more confident when going to school. What makes our family happiest is that this year my child was able to start Grade 1. My child even told me, ‘Thanks to the prosthetic leg, I can start Grade 1 now.’ Hearing my child say that made me very emotional. For our family, the prosthetic leg not only helps my child walk but also gives my child more opportunities to study, play, and participate together with friends. Our family is truly grateful to the project and everyone who has supported my child.”
Sharing the same joy, Ms. P.T.H. from Dong Trach Commune said: “The prosthetic leg fits well, looks nice, and came with suitable socks and shoes. I am very happy and can feel the project's thoughtful care. The technicians also gave me very detailed instructions on how to practice and use it safely. With this new prosthetic leg, I feel more confident walking, working, and carrying out my daily activities.”

Seeing the changes in her husband, Ms. L.T.L., wife of Mr. N.V.T. from Cua Tung Commune, emotionally recalled: “After he became disabled in his leg, his gout complications also caused many lumps to develop around his joints, making it extremely difficult for him to walk. Every time he needed to move around the house, he had to crawl. Because our family was facing financial difficulties, we never dared to think that we would be able to afford a prosthetic leg. Seeing him stand up and take his first steps with support from the project made me very happy. Now that he has a new prosthetic leg, moving around is much less difficult. He can continue helping with small household tasks and actively participate in activities in the village. Our family is truly grateful to the project.”
Happy to be more independent in his daily activities, Mr. P.X.T. from Bac Trach Commune shared: “I was very happy to receive new prosthetic and orthotic devices from the project because I can walk much more steadily. At home, I can now sweep the floor and cook to help my family. The prosthetic leg fits very well, allowing me to walk more comfortably without the pain, tightness, and discomfort I experienced before. When I wore a prosthetic arm for the first time, I was overwhelmed with emotion and happiness. From now on, whenever I attend a wedding or go to a crowded place, I feel confident walking around and talking with everyone. This thoughtful support has truly brought new hope to me. I would like to sincerely thank the project.”
The provision of prosthetic and orthotic devices has helped persons with disabilities significantly improve their mobility, become more independent in daily activities, and reduce difficulties in moving around. In addition to providing functional support, the devices also create better conditions for persons with disabilities to participate more confidently in education, work, and family, community, and social activities. Through this activity, the project contributes to improving quality of life, strengthening independent living, and promoting the full inclusion of persons with disabilities in the community.
