From August 21 to 27, 2025, 94 persons with disabilities in Thang An, Thang Dien, and Thang Phu communes (Da Nang City) received Phase 1 of home-based rehabilitation (rehab) interventions and care. The activity was implemented by a team of technicians, nurses, and doctors from Quang Nam Traditional Medicine Hospital and Thang Binh Regional Medical Center. It aims to improve health indicators and enhance the quality of life for persons with disabilities in the community.

During the rehab interventions, doctors and technicians from Quang Nam Traditional Medicine Hospital and Thang Binh Regional Medical Center prescribed tailored treatments based on each person's physical condition. These included physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy. Persons with disabilities were guided to perform proper exercises to improve range of motion, balance, endurance, and daily living skills (ADLs) such as eating, mobility, and personal hygiene. In necessary cases, physicians also prescribed assistive or orthotic devices to support mobility and daily activities.

Simultaneously, the nursing team from Thang Binh Regional Medical Center visited each household to provide home care guidance for persons with disabilities, offering advice on nutrition, diet, medication management, personal hygiene, oral care, and pressure sore prevention for both persons with disabilities and their caregivers.

Each person with a disability is scheduled to receive eight sessions of home-based rehab intervention and care. This first session marks the opening visit, with each session lasting approximately 30 to 60 minutes depending on the context and condition of the individual. Health staff will visit the homes of persons with disabilities once every two weeks, with the total intervention period expected to last four months.

Ms. N.T.T, a person with a disability from Thang Phu commune, shared: "Both my husband and I are persons with disabilities. Having doctors and health professionals come directly to our home to provide rehabilitation is very touching and brings us great joy."

Persons with disabilities are provided with consultation and support by the technical team to improve their health and well-being

Ms. L.T.D, mother of T.Q.D from Thang An commune, shared: "Having health workers visit our home to provide guidance and care for my son makes me feel comforted and much more at ease. I realized that some of the ways I had been caring for my child were not appropriate. Thanks to the consultation and guidance, I will make adjustments to take better care of him. I sincerely thank the project."

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hang, a nurse from Thang Binh Regional Medical Center, shared: "This is my fourth year participating in the project. For me, every household visit is not only an opportunity to provide care guidance for persons with disabilities but also a chance to listen, accompany, and support them step by step in improving their health and life."

This activity is part of the project “Support to Improve the Quality of Life of Persons with Disabilities in Provinces Heavily Sprayed with Agent Orange” in the three provinces of Quang Tri, Quang Nam (now Da Nang City), and Hue City (formerly Thua Thien Hue Province) during the 2024–2025 period. ACDC Institute is one of the implementing partners under the management of CCIHP, with the National Action Center for Toxic Chemicals and Environmental Treatment (NACCET) as the project owner.
